Kite Beach in Cabarete, Dominican Republic

So far I’ve found four places that are ideal destinations for digital nomads; I call them Nomad Bases. Each of them provides an inexpensive, healthy routine for like-minded travelers. In my opinion, these places represent long-term travel at its best!

There’s no easily searchable category for these types of places, but I’m certain there are more of them. I simply haven’t discovered them yet, and that’s where I need your help!

If you know of any place that fits the criteria below, please tell me about it in the comments section. I will update the list any time I visit another spot worthy of the addition.

Criteria for a Nomad Base:

1.) Affordable lodging

Obviously this is relative, but the idea is that a month-long stay wouldn’t break the bank. e.g. Developing countries, low cost-of-living, hostels, guesthouse, etc.

2.) Daily activity

This is something fun and energetic that can be done every day, by myself or with friends; usually something I can improve over time. e.g. Kiteboarding, snowboarding, surfing, cycling, skateboarding, horseback riding, etc.

3.) Meal Plan or Full-Board

Any place that offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner is a winner in my book! This allows me to simply slide into a routine and focus my time on the things that are important to me.

4.) Communal dinners

This is the real secret sauce! The places that have a shared table and a set meal time are easily the closest thing to home on the road.

5.) Workout classes

It’s so much easier to stay fit when a gym is accessible. It’s even better if there’s a personal trainer leading a class every day.

6.) Walkable commute, or transportation provided

I don’t want to spend much time or money on transit after I’ve checked-in. e.g. Short walk to an ATM, convenient bus or ferry schedule, bikes available, local tuk-tuk driver, etc.

Whether you’re staying for a week or the whole season, these places provide the best quality of life I’ve found anywhere in the world.

Now leave a comment and tell me about similar places that should be on my radar.
