of Nomad Life

Things that are HARDER as a nomad:

  • Routines and familiarity

  • Maintaining a diet

  • Getting alone time

  • Maintaining friendships and relationships

  • Personal space (often working/sleeping in shared spaces)

  • Quality night’s sleep (ie. Having your own bed)

  • Staying organized (no dresser or closet)

  • Doing laundry (limited outfits to wear)

  • Organized sports leagues

  • Staying active or working out

  • Productive work days (ie. desk with a power outlet, second monitor, reliable WiFi)

  • An address to receive mail and packages

  • Creature comforts (ice cream, french fries, rocking chair, etc.)

  • Getting around town or running errands

  • Arts and crafts

  • Having varied, interesting conversations

Things that are EASIER as a nomad:

  • Traveling

  • Trying new foods

  • Meeting people / making acquaintances

  • Casual relationships

  • Pursuing a bucket list

  • Saying yes to opportunities

  • Saying no to things

  • Monthly expenses

  • Learning new things

  • Variety of experiences

  • Freedom

Necessary traits and skills:

  • Embracing uncertainty (holding plans loosely)

  • Personal resolve (tenacity, confidence, positivity, empowerment, decisiveness, gratitude)

  • Creating a sense of home (candle, music, flowers, etc.)

  • Permission to disagree with your former self

  • Able to sleep soundly in any environment

  • Your close friends should describe you as easygoing.

  • Patience, or wealth.

Ideas to make the time more memorable:

  • Write gratitudes every day

  • Film one second every day, or do a long-term creative project

  • Keep a journal or write Morning Pages

  • Carry a travel guest book for the people you meet
